The annual SAMMY (Syracuse Area Music Awards) celebration, honoring the best of local musicians, have decided to change their format. The awards show is becoming MIC (Meet Interact Connect) and becoming more of an industry schmooze-a-thon, bringing industry folks to a conference and allowing the locals to develop contacts to advance their careers.
Well, good luck with all that and I hope it goes well. For this blog, the important news is that the keynote Speaker will be Max Weinberg, drummer for the “heart-stopping, house-rocking, pants-dropping, brain-shocking, earth-quaking, booty-shaking, Viagra-taking, love-making, sexifying, electrifying: LEGENDARY E Street Band!”
Mark October 9th on your calendars and check the MIC site for ticket info. In addition to the speaking gig, Max will also be playing in the OnCenter Ballroom with his Max Weinberg Big Band:
the Max Weinberg Big Band is a bold, swinging fifteen piece aggregation that continues the traditions established by Max’s musical heroes—among whom, Frank Sinatra, Count Basie, Buddy Rich, Gene Krupa, Doc Severinsen, and Maynard Ferguson lead the pack.
When Max is here, can someone get him to put in a good word about the ‘Cuse to Bruce? Bruce hasn’t been here since his 1996 acoustic Ghost of Tom Joad tour and hasn’t brought the E Streeters to town since the 1985 Carrier Dome/Born In The USA shows.
