Hey, look at me, I’m a DJ! See my playlist at blip.fm
my photoblog “Syruckus: a boy and his cameraphone”
Library Thing, a catalog of the books I’m reading
My old blog Racing In The Street (June 2004-September 2006) dealt with some of the same topics that are getting play on this blog.
On Space and On Neighbors were two posts that became part of a discussion that rattled around the CNY blogosphere on the meaning of neighborhoods and the divide between city and suburbs.
For those of you dying to get a glimpse behind my blogger mask, I wrote posts on my brush with a pulmonary embolism, the CD I burned for my sister’s funeral and my cognitive dissonance over my purchase of an S.U.V.
Fans of Syracuse’s city government may want to check out my post on a fascinating Council committee hearing on the police budget that morphed into a fractious debate on race and class issues. I also analyzed the political campaign for the 4th Common Council seat representing the city’s Southside.
For a less wonkish take on what it’s like to live in CNY, check out my posts on living with coyotes and my Top 10 list of reasons I live in CNY.
I love my job as a community organizer because of the people I have met along the way. I’ve also written about direct action protests that SUN has organized. It hasn’t all been easy though and I’ve also written about my failure to organize a protest on MLK, Jr. Day, as well as my frustrations with the slow pace of progress in our community and nation.
I also write a lot about rock ‘n’ roll and on a blog titled Still Racing In The Street you would expect a thought or two on Bruce Springsteen. Check out my review of his Seeger Sessions album
and my amazing trip to Saratoga (against doctor’s orders) for his amazing 17 piece arena folk blowout!

Hi. I guess your name is Phil, although I had to dig a little to figure that out. : ) So, hi, Phil. I started a blog/site on the night of the Republican convention, after listening to the speeches, especially those of Giuliani and Palin with their insulting references to community organizers. The domain is http://www.community-organizer.com, which just forwards to communityorganizer.wordpress.com.
At first, it was really just a way for me to vent, and I wanted to carve out a site that paid some respect to community organizers – maybe even give them space to tell their story a little. (If you want to share, feel free to come on over and go the “Tell Your Story” page. Or just comment anywhere.)
So I came across your blog somehow in the repeated act of clicking clicking clicking on links until I’m not sure where I started clicking and how I got here. But I’m glad I did.
Keep up the good work you’re doing in the community, and keep up the blogging! Peace.
